UK Pavilion at Shanghai Expo 2010 by Thomas Heatherwick

'The 7.5 metre rods will act as fibre optic filaments during the day, illuminating the interior of the pavilion with natural light. At night the rods transport the light from the inside to the exterior, allowing the structure to glow.'

This building is really interesting in its own right and in relation to my own current project I feel that it could prove to be a useful precedence when thinking about the skin of the building and the interaction between interior and exterior space, and importantly light. The form of the building the penetrating rods create seem to also echo my thoughts on creating a hairy deteriorating building which blurs and hides its own edges.
Hopefully this will help when thinking about the current white space which exists in my own section where there instead should be structure.
